Consumer confidence plunged to anew to a new record low -41 as households felt that their past financial situation worsened -32  along with future financial prospects –18. Regarding their past standing of living, consumer confidence deteriorated further and dived to an abysmal -74 with no likely hood for improvement -49 while the opportunity to make significant purchases slid to -31 (from -29 in March). Concerning their current financial situation, consumers remained pessimistic as the indicator dipped to 10 (compared with 12 in March) while the future savings capacity indicator plunged to a record -20 from -1 a year ago. The savings capacity indicator also slid, to 21. Regarding unemployment, consumer confidence worsened and rose to 18 from a lower 10 two months ago similarly to inflationary consumer prices for which households foresaw no improvement.


JUNE  2008

Consumer confidence dipped to a new record low -46 compared with the previous month as households stayed pessimistic over their past standing of living -78 (compared with an already abysmal -75 in May) and the likely hood for improvement –57. Regarding their personal financial situation over the mast twelve months, households felt that it has worsened –35, similarly to future financial prospects –23. The opportunity to make significant purchases felt deeper into the red with the indicator dipping to –37. Households also felt that their savings capacity worsened -21 (from -20) along with the opportunity to save money. Regarding unemployment and consumer prices, households concerns remained high.
